What is Anxiety?

Many of us experience anxiety. It is a constant daily struggle for far too many. Often described as “I feel like I don’t know what to do next…” or “I can’t get my thoughts straight”. Anxiety can be caused from tons of things ranging from medical problems to pure psychological conflict. (Also known as worry or angst!) One of the most amazing things I’ve learned about the human body and mind is that even when we consciously choose to not deal with something that is “emotional” for us our body and mind makes a note of this and holds on to it. Some where down the line we will feel that emotion. It may be in the form of a panic attack or an ulcer! The connections are usually not literal or even “traceable” but the point is our bodies and minds are always monitoring our energy (feelings). Some anxiety is normal, some anxiety is healthy and lifesaving. For example, it is very normal to feel “nervous” about doing things for the first time, or to feel nervous before speaking publicly.

When the anxiety that we feel becomes so prominent that it is interfering with getting work done, our relationships, our sleep habits, our ability to manage on a daily basis, then it’s time to seek outside help.
